Artist to Artist

videoOh my!  What to paint?  Where to paint?  You ask yourself, should I drive out of town to search for my subject?  How about looking in your own backyard.  Your subject can be an intimate view or a full landscape
My next series of paintings will tell the story of a working vineyard, my Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard.
Five years ago Wayne and I planted the vineyard; sticks in the ground.  Now, we have a producing vineyard with harvest time late September.
You can see that the vineyard is netted, this to protect the grapes from birds.  See these wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon clusters?  A purple grape that makes a full body red wine.

I'll go out in the morning hours when it's cool, set up my easel, wet my brush, and have some fun splashing paint on paper.
I would like to hear about your backyard adventures.

  1. Hi Barbara!
I imagine you sitting in your beautiful vineyard painting your backyard series! Have you begun yet? I'm excited to see the progress.

My current backyard adventure involves trying to outwit a rogue doe. She has figured out how to jump past our fence to mow down our freshly planted raspberry canes, tasty snap peas and rugosa roses. Yikes! ; )
I'm not sure I'd paint the adventure unless it's one of my Sharpie illustrations showing a caricature of a big-toothed deer with my flowers hanging out of her mouth!
Thanks for your inspiration - it's always a treat to visit your blog!
    Hugs from Port Townsend, WA
